Website in a weekend: from learning to launch

  • Ziferblat Edge Street 23 Edge Street Manchester, England, M4 1HW United Kingdom (map)

Has "get website sorted" been on your to-do list for a while? Do you find yourself struggling to set aside time to work on it? Did you start and then feel a bit overwhelmed?

If this sounds familiar, join me for this friendly and fun weekend workshop where over two days, you'll learn the skills needed to create a website using Squarespace.

If you've not come across Squarespace before, I've written a bit about what it is and why it's different to other website builders.

I've used Squarespace to make websites for clients since 2013, and I've been running Squarespace workshops since 2016. I'm a Squarespace Authorized Trainer and a member of the Squarespace Circle community which is exclusively for professionals who create websites on Squarespace.

The workshop includes:

  • A discount code for 20% off your Squarespace subscription in the first year
  • Lunch and refreshments throughout the day
  • One to one time with me so you can get support specific to your needs
  • A friendly and jargon-free environment

On the Saturday we'll look at some theory and I'll introduce you to Squarespace, plus you'll have a chance to get hands-on and build some example pages to familiarise yourself with how it all works. This day is perfect for beginners or anybody who wants to learn more about Squarespace.

Due to popular demand, I'm adding an extra bonus day to this workshop. If you've ever left a course with lots of knowledge but struggled to find the time to implement it, you'll understand why! On the Sunday you'll get time dedicated to working on your own project with support and inspiration from me, so that by the end of the weekend you'll have a website ready to launch.

Tickets are also available for the individual days but please note that if you're coming along to just the Sunday, you should be reasonably confident using Squarespace already.

DAY 1: Learn how to use Squarespace to create your own website

This first day will focus on getting you confident using Squarespace and starting to create a basic framework for your website. We'll cover:

  • The basics of how Squarespace works
  • Choosing a template
  • Navigating the Squarespace interface
  • Key features that you might otherwise miss
  • Laying out your content on pages
  • Adjusting fonts and colors
  • Top tips and resources to make your life easier
  • An introduction to search engine optimisation (SEO)

DAY 2: Put your learning in place to build your website, then launch it

The second day will be dedicated to giving you time to work on your website with support from me throughout the day. You'll get:

  • One to one time with me to review your progress
  • Examples and inspiration to give you ideas
  • Feedback and ideas from the other workshop attendees
  • Help linking your website domain
  • Advice on choosing the right subscription plan for your needs

Here's what previous attendees have said:

“It didn’t just give the tools for using Squarespace it also helped with how to build a good website that does what you need it to do.”

“Clearly explained, informal, useful and funny. Really enjoyed the interaction with the rest of the group and the chance to benefit from their questions as well as from the already great course content.”

“I did like that it was informal yet still well structured. I was utterly relieved that I could remember how to do things once I got home as I wasn’t sure if I’d definitely picked it up while I was actually there doing it! I did like that all the ‘example’ content was taken out of the template as this definitely helped to learn how everything worked within the site. I really liked the ‘homework’ questions that we were sent in advance as that really helped to think about who we want going to the website and why.”

“Covering the ‘why’ before getting hands on was beneficial as it made me think more about the website visitors then I would have (making a pretty website that I liked otherwise). Despite not having a genuine business need for a website the course was interesting and motivating. There was no unnecessary waffle and you made it fun and real.”

“I really enjoyed the course, I liked the laid back nature and the small group as it felt personal. The hands on nature was great too”

FAQs

What should I bring to the event?

Please bring a laptop with you as you will be getting hands on over the course of the weekend. We'll have plenty of extension leads so don't worry if your battery life isn't great!

Can I just attend one of the days?

Yes! If you already feel comfortable with Squarespace, you can just come to the Sunday to work on the website. If you want to learn the skills but are quite happy putting them into practice on your own, it's totally fine to just attend the Saturday session.

I'm not very "techy". Can I still come along?

Absolutely! Most people who come on my workshops aren't techy, and I allow plenty of time to go over any questions.

Are there any other benefits to attending?

I can't make any promises, but people who come to the workshops often make really valuable connections with other attendees and end up doing business or collaborating with them! It's a really nice way to meet other small business owners too.

What if I'm not sure this workshop is right for me, or have more questions?

If you're wondering whether it would be a good fit, or aren't sure which day(s) to attend, email me on hello@thewheelexists.com or call me on 07904 781 573. I promise to let you know if I don't think it's suitable for you.

Do I need to know anything else?

I'm a Squarespace Authorized Trainer, but this is not an official Squarespace event.
